Pilgrimage to Iona
Led by Leslie Neugent, Ministry Intern
Tuesday, March 23
7:00 p.m. beginning in the Colonnade
Iona, a tiny island off the western coast of Scotland, is considered one of the spiritually “thin” places in the world. Settled in the year 563 by St. Columba, it became known as the birthplace of the Christian movement as it moved across western Europe. St. Columba and the monks in the Abbey are believed to have penned the famous “Book of Kells” here and ancient Kings are buried in the graveyard, including MacBeth and Duncan. In celebration of the coming of Holy Week, “Called to Care” will host A Pilgrimage to Iona.
This evening will include an interactive pilgrimage experience based on Leslie’s recent visit to the island. This will include a short discussion about the history of the area and a time spent in the Sanctuary to view pictures of the sacred spaces of Iona, as we pray, meditate, read scripture and sing together. Please join us as we prepare for our journey towards Easter.
