Waiting: Advent as a time for spiritual discovery
Tuesdays, November 29, December 6, 13 & 20
9:00-10:15 a.m. in the Colonnade
Led by Dana Essex, Caring Community Minister
Advent is the beginning of the Christian year and traditionally a time of waiting. Just as Mary awaited the birth of Jesus, each of us can enter a time of waiting and discovery of what God is calling us to in the new year. We will recognize God’s love for us, explore contemplative practices in response to scriptures of the season, and discover new direction for our spiritual journeys. There is a $10 fee for materials. Facilitated by Dana Essex, PhD, member of the WCC Caring Community Ministry team and certified spiritual counselor. For further information contact Dana at or 612.716.8357. Click here to register.

Those Who Dream Dreams
Wednesdays, November 30, December 7, 14 & 21
6:30 p.m. in the Colonnade
Led by Rev. Dan Stark
The Christmas story is filled with a whole ensemble of dreamers. The prophets, the psalmists, John the Baptist, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, the shepherds, and the Magi — all dreamed dreams. They received, discovered, and responded to God’s dreams for the world. They also invite us to dream. This Advent season you are invited to journey with the dreamers of the Bible. Join Rev. Dan Stark on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. for a 4-week Bible study on dreams of hope, peace, joy, and love. Click here to register.

Seekers is a discussion group — all are welcome on Saturday mornings from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Zoom. “Advent is an expectant anticipation. Who are we in the stories and events? Are we those who yearn for the coming kingdom of justice and peace, who seek peace through justice? Or do we, like advocates of imperial theology, seek peace through victory? Are we obedient like Mary? What if we identify with the shepherds?” (Adapted from the writings of Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan).

If you are interested in hearing more about Seekers, please contact Judy Reed at We’ll add you to our active members list and share the Zoom code. We send a weekly email a day or so prior to Saturday and let you know the topic of the week.
