Senior Trip to Colorado

GENERAL INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION
The Colorado Trip is open to all graduated 12th graders.

Dates: July 24-August 1

Cost: The cost of the trip is $1,845*, which includes: airfare, food, and supplies while at Noah’s Ark and on trail, lodging, and transportation. There will be a couple of fast food meals beyond that cost, as well as personal clothing and outdoor gear for which participants will be responsible (equipment packing list will be provided).

Payment Deadline: First payment of $461.25 due at the time of registration. Three additional payments of $461.25  each will be auto-billed on  May 15, June 15th, and July 15th.

TRIP ITINERARY
Day 1, July 24: We will meet at the MSP airport (mid-morning), and fly to Denver, CO. From there, we will travel to Buena Vista. We will stay that evening at the Noah’s Ark base camp.

Day 2, July 25: We will spend half the day rock climbing and the other half of the day on a white water rafting trip.  We will again spend that evening at Noah’s Ark base camp.

Day 3 – 8, July 26 – July 30: On trail guided by Noah’s Ark staff.  Discover Colorado on a backpacking adventure with knowledgeable and engaging guides who join our journey as we climb peaks and descend valleys.

Day 9,  August 1: We will depart Noah’s Ark base camp, traveling by bus to the Denver airport, and flying back to MSP airport (mid-afternoon).

PARTICIPANT MEETINGS
We will have two participant meetings, which are mandatory for each student participant and at least one parent/guardian. We consider these meetings to be part of the trip.

•  Meeting #1 time and location TBD. We will review the trip details, hand out important paperwork and information, including a list of necessary and recommended personal clothing and gear.

• Meeting #2  is tentatively set for Thursday, July 21st- evening TBD This final meeting is just a few days before our departure. We’ll cover last-minute details.

ABOUT THE TRIP
The Colorado Trip is an outward bound style experience with a focus on faith development and personal exploration for graduating high school seniors. Every challenge during this adventure in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado is an example of how our faith journey intersects with daily life. While being challenged physically, mentally and spiritually, the trip will give you the opportunity to grow in all of these ways. The trip will be a voyage of personal discovery, a great time to bond with your fellow classmates, and an exploration of some of the most beautiful landscapes you will ever see.

Who is Noah’s Ark?
Noah’s Ark is located in Buena Vista, Colorado on the Arkansas River. The company specializes in white water rafting and backcountry adventures. Their professional guides will lead us in wilderness backpacking, rock climbing and white water rafting. Each guide is extensively trained in water rescue, wilderness survival, first aid/CPR, and navigation. The exact plan for each adventure will be developed by Noah’s Ark with input and approval by Nate McDonald and Michele Ramert. For more information please contact Nate McDonald at ndm9293@gmail.com.

NOTE TO PARENTS
The High School Program at Wayzata Community Church places a priority on the experiences in faith and personal development that each student has the opportunity to enjoy.  We developed the Colorado trip for the oldest students in the program, because we see this type of challenge as a uniquely beneficial experience as students are growing in their independence and responsibility, and as they prepare to move out into the world beyond high school.

The trip offers special challenges and opportunities to each participant, allowing for growth through physical adventures. We find that it is within these exciting and new challenges that deep and profound emotional and spiritual growth can take place.

Our hope is that each student is challenged in their own individual way, and that throughout the experience they strengthen the bonds they have between themselves and God, and the peers and adults they embark on this adventure with.
