Fall Adult Faith Classes

Come together in community to deepen relationships, grow in faith, and to take time to intentionally nurture your spiritual life.

Tuesday Class
Deeper Faith for Everyday Living
September 27-November 7
9:00 – 10:15 a.m., Colonnade
Led by Rev. Danielle Jones
Our pursuit of our best life is a worthy endeavor but it will not satisfy the deep longings of our soul. What satisfies our soul is cultivating a deeper relationship with God and using our gifts to love and serve others.  If you have been wanting to deepen your faith but you just don’t know how, join Danielle Jones for a 7 week exploration of faith questions and practices.
We will meet for seven sessions during the fall using the book Companions of Christ: Ignatian Spirituality for Everyday Living as our guide. Sessions will be focused on building community, listening, and looking for God in daily life. Cost is $20 for materials. Click here to register.

Wednesday Classes
NOTE: Classes will not be held on October 19, MEA weekend.

Midrash: Exploring the Bible with Curiosity and Imagination
Wednesdays, October 5, 12, 26 and November 2, 9 & 16
4:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., Colonnade
Led by Rev. Steve Wiens
Midrash is a Jewish way of engaging with scripture that began in the ancient world and continues today. The early rabbis felt free to ask questions about narratives of the biblical text, not only in the words written, but also in between and beyond it, in a spirit of discovery. Join Steve Wiens this fall for a conversational journey through some of the bible’s most interesting passages using the layered Midrash approach, which provides space to ask questions with the layers of the human experience. Feel free to come to just one or two or all six; the content in each class will stand alone. Click here to register.

Odd Stories from the Bible (Note: this class has been canceled.)

Thursday Class
Thursday Morning Faith Bible Study
beginning September 22
10:00 a.m. in the Colonnade
Led by Rev. Lindy Purdy
Faith Bible Study starts up again on Thursday, September 22. All are welcome to come, put on your “theologian hat” and dig into scripture and theology with Lindy. All you need is curiosity and a loving spirit.  If you like maps, words, stories, or fellowship, please join us! Led by Minister Emerita, Lindy Purdy.

9:30-11:00 a.m. via ZOOM beginning September 24
Seekers is a discussion group. The topics are varied, social justice, faith formation and theology, current events, talk about opinion pieces we have read, challenges for us as individuals, our church, and communities in which we reside. Sometimes we have a guest speaker or listen to a video or film. Learn something new from many wise, reflective thinkers or meet a new friend. Courageous listening is encouraged. Valerie Kaur describes some practices. “Deep listening is an act of surrender. We must risk being changed by what we hear. When we really want to hear another person’s story we need to leave our preconceptions at the door and draw close to their telling. We need to quiet our responses and not just partially listen… The most critical part of listening is asking what’s at stake for the other person. Try to understand what’s important to them, not what you think is important.”

If you are interested in learning more about this group we’d like to hear from you. Contact Judy Reed at We’ll add you to our active members list and share the Zoom code. Usually we send a weekly email a day or so prior to Saturday and let you know the topic for that week. We hope you can fit us into your fall schedule. All are welcome!

Note: Occasionally we will meet in-person, announcing that information as plans are put in place. We do not meet over major holiday weekends— so no meeting Thanksgiving weekend.
