When I woke up my hair was not its usual self, instead of my daily John Estrem flow, it was stiff and brittle. We started the day with hearing a devotion from Ingrid Sund which left us with some meaningful things to think about. As we proceeded to our work site I saw a basketball court, reminding me of home and the picture in my room. The image is of a basketball court that includes a quote reading “If everybody worked as hard as me I’d be out of a job” (Steve Nash 1). Remembering the quote helped me prepare for a long day of work. After arriving at the work site we began to divide into work groups and fasten the roof. I assisted in the cutting of the tar paper.
After we broke for lunch vendors approached us selling a wide variety of goods. As me and Daniel ate, something caught our eyes—we heard one of the women pitching custom bracelets for sale. We approached her with clear ideas but little knowledge of the language needed to communicate. Eventually we got across our request to commission two of the bracelets embroidered with the words Steve Nash. Following an eventful lunch the group continued working on the house, preparing the roof and walls for sealing. On our way back to the campsite we passed the same basketball court but this time when I remembered home I realized that it was here too.
