Interfaith Book Study: Holy Envy, by Barbara Brown Taylor
Facilitator: Nan Peterson
Wednesdays, September 18-October 16
6:30-8:00 p.m., Piper Library
In Holy Envy, Barbara Brown Taylor contemplates the myriad ways other people and traditions encounter the Transcendent, both by digging deeper into those traditions herself and by seeing them through her students’ eyes as she sets off with them on field trips to monasteries, temples, and mosques.
Troubled and inspired by what she learns, Taylor returns to her own tradition for guidance, finding new meaning in old teachings that have too often been used to exclude religious strangers instead of embracing the divine challenges they present. Re-imagining some central stories from the religion she knows best, she takes heart in how often God chooses outsiders to teach insiders how out-of-bounds God really is. Interfaith Ministry at Feed My Starving Children Packing Event
The Interfaith Engagement Ministry is co-hosting a portion of the Feed My Starving Children Packing Event at WCC, with the Mission & Outreach Board. We are inviting our brothers and sisters from other faith communities to join us. Please come stand shoulder to shoulder with those from other religious traditions as we package meals, as hunger does not discriminate based on religious, geographical or political boundaries. The date and time of the interfaith event is pending — stay tuned for details in the Insight email and inspire closer to the event.
