EVERY MEAL: PACKING FOOD BAGS
Every Meal is fighting child hunger right here in our own neighborhoods around the Twin Cities. This school year, Every Meal is seeing a 34% increase in the number of children who are food insecure. You can help by gathering a group of people to pack food bags at the Every Meal Warehouse. This is a fun, easy, all ages service opportunity that you can fit into your schedule. It only takes two hours to pack hundreds of bags of food to ensure that everyone who is in need has access to healthy meals over the holidays.
Visit volunteer.everymeal.org to sign up for a time to pack meals and to make a difference in fighting child hunger in Minnesota.
HELP RESETTLE A REFUGEE FAMILY
We work with the Minnesota Council of Churches Refugee program as a co-sponsor of a refugee family. Our job is to serve as a welcome team to a family that has refugee status and is eligible to work and receive services in Minnesota. We will partner for six months to help a family get settled in a new home, to provide transportation to important appointments, to practice English and to help Minnesota feel like home. If you would like to be a part of this team, please contact Ann Shaw at ann.c.shaw1@gmail.com or Peter and Vicki Thompson at pthompson@hamline.edu.
EDITH’S HOUSE OUTREACH VOLUNTEERS
We have a wonderful opportunity to serve alongside Edith Perlin, founder of Edith’s House. The mission of Edith’s House is to help people who are struggling with addiction, homelessness, and job loss. Edith’s House reaches out to people who are struggling by making a connection through neighborhood ministry. On the fourth Thursday of every month Edith sets up a table for one hour at either a street location where homeless people congregate, or at a day shelter where the homeless can rest and get a meal during the day. Edith uses this opportunity to reach out to the homeless community to talk about the shelter services she provides as well as to offer snack food, and hygiene items. Come and be part of her outreach team! If you are interested, please contact Jeff Johnson at (612) 310-5209.
