Take a journey through Holy Week at Wayzata Community Church with these reflective worship opportunities.
April 8, 5:15 p.m. Community Meal
& 6:30 p.m. Worship, Mithun Hall
This year we start our Holy Week services with Wednesday Night Table Worship. Table worship will begin with a shared meal; much like Passover, we will celebrate Wayzata Community Church community and friendship through dinner. The cost is $5 per person.
Historically, Holy Wednesday, or Unction Wednesday, has focused on the act of healing. It is a time to remember that as people of God we are a healed people offering healing to the world. Join us as we explore the power of healing and hope in our lives and the world.
MAUNDY THURSDAY, TENEBRAE WITH COMMUNION*
April 9, 7:00 p.m., Sanctuary
The service of Tenebrae, meaning “darkness” or “shadows,” has been practiced by the church since medieval times. Once a service for the monastic community, Tenebrae later became an important part of the worship of the entire church during Holy Week. We join Christians of many generations throughout the world in using the liturgy of Tenebrae.
Tenebrae is a prolonged meditation on Christ’s suffering. Readings trace the story of Christ’s passion, music portrays his pathos, and the power of silence and darkness suggests the drama of this momentous day. As lights are extinguished, we ponder the depth of Christ’s suffering and death; we remember the cataclysmic nature of his sacrifice and through the return of the small but persistent flame of the Christ candle at the conclusion of the service, we anticipate the joy of ultimate victory.
GOOD FRIDAY, WORSHIPX*
April 10, 6:00 p.m., Sanctuary
The Good Friday Experience at Wayzata Community Church is one of the most reverent and dramatic services of the year with profound music, spoken word, art, and a chance for all to engage in a solemn, contemplative, and modern style worship experience.
